Fort Worth: Stockyards and Sports
Things to Do
Historic Stockyards District
Stockyards Station
Filled with many people, definitely a must-see tourist attraction. Step back in time with a visit to the Stockyards. This historic area is rich with cowboy culture and offers plenty to see and do. Grab all your souvenirs within the shops.
Cattle Drive
Catch the daily cattle drive for an authentic unique experience that showcases the spirit of the Old West. Happens twice a day for 362 days!
Rodeo
No trip to Fort Worth is complete without experiencing the thrill of a rodeo. The Stockyards Championship Rodeo is a must-see, offering a variety of events from bull riding to barrel racing.
Billy Bob's Texas
Known as the world's largest honky-tonk, Billy Bob's is a legendary venue. We attended a fantastic Lee Brice concert here—definitely a highlight!
Drinks!
As you’re walking around, grab a drink at any one of the bars! Drinks are allowed and encouraged in the stockyards!
Sports
Rangers Stadium
Baseball fans will enjoy a visit to Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. Whether you're catching a game or just touring the stadium, it's a great spot for sports enthusiasts.
Charles Schwab Challenge
This PGA Tour event at the Colonial Country Club is a treat for golf fans. The course is beautiful, and the competition is top-notch.
Golf at Whitestone Golf Club
This course was a wonderful experience—beautifully maintained, a bit challenging, but overall fantastic for a round of golf.
Places to Eat
Tex-Mex Cuisine
Taco Heads: Delicious and authentic Tex-Mex with powerful flavors.
Paloma Suerte: Another excellent choice for Tex-Mex, offering a vibrant atmosphere and flavorful dishes.
Texas BBQ
H3 Ranch: If you're craving Texas BBQ, H3 Ranch is the place to go. Their open wood fire grilled meats are mouthwatering and quintessentially Texan.
Pizza
Cane Rosso: Try Cane Rosso for the most authentic wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas in Texas. We grabbed it to go one late night, but they have a fantastic outdoor seating area that I definitely would’ve enjoyed with my pizza.
Extras!
Coffee at Black Rifle
Very good coffee with lots of options, even had a good breakfast sandwich.
Shopping at the Arlington Outlets
Lots of deals to be found at these outlets.
Tips
Transportation
With Uber prices on the rise, renting a car is a smart choice. We opted for a hybrid, which was perfect for our trip. After driving around 200 miles, we only needed to fill up half a tank!
Accommodation
We stayed at an Airbnb, which was the most affordable option and provided us with our own personal space. For close to $100 a night, we got a one-bed, one-bath perfect for me and my boyfriend.
Weather
The weather during our visit was warm with a damp heat, likely due to recent rains. Typically, Fort Worth has a drier heat, so pack light, flowy clothing to stay comfortable.
Safety
My boyfriend and I felt very safe within the Fort Worth area. The streets were clean and despite the border issues that are going on, we didn’t have to worry about feeling unsafe. The Stockyards do get very crowded.
Make sure to check out Ticketmaster to find what concerts and ball games you can catch while there. We will be going back to check out AT&T Stadium and Dallas, so stay tuned!
Things We Would Not Recommend
Margaritas at Shaw's Patio and Grill: Not a great experience.
Breakfast at Yolk: It's a chain, and the food is just average. My French toast was made with very thin bread and it was super eggy.
Things We Missed
Eating at Heim BBQ: We missed out on this highly recommended spot.
Exploring Magnolia Ave: While doing my research I heard a lot about spending a day there. We didn’t make exploration, but there are a number of restaurants and shops to explore.
